Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Retail Install Boot-132 Method

Posted in Dell Inspiron 1525 on September 13th, 2009 by Genaro Bonilla – 1,682 Comments

This guide only covers up to 10.6.1 Please do not update past that unless you know how to proceed.

Alright, I know a lot of you have been waiting for this so here it is.

Alright to start off with I have made two boot-132 cd’s.

BootSLv3.iso: Contains all of the Extra’s you need to make a quick install

Download BootSLv3-wifi.iso

BootSLv3-nowifi.iso: This is for those of you with the “Still Waiting for Root Device” problem.

Download BootSLv3-nowifi.iso

BootSLv3-NoExtra.iso: Doesn’t have any Extras and will only be able to boot you into the install disk.

Download BootSLv3-noextra.iso

Let’s get started

Step 1: Make sure you have your copy of Snow Leopard (I would highly suggest purchasing it, it’s a great price for what it offers!)

Step 2: Download BootSL.iso and burn it to a CD.

Step 3: Put the burned boot cd into your cd-drive and on startup at the “DELL” splash screen press “F12″ now you will be at the boot selection menu, from here wait till your activity light on your cd-drive stops blinking and boot from the disk.

Step 4: Eject the boot-132 disk and replace it with your Snow Leopard Disk and again, wait till the activity light stops blinking. Once it’s stopped press “F5″ and the Install Disk will appear. Boot the disk with the boot flags “-v -x” you do this by simply typing -v -x. If you see it at the bottom left corner then you did it right, just hit enter. The disk will take about 5-10 min to load.

Step 5: Once in the install disk go to “Tools” from the menu bar and choose “Disk Utility.” Once you’ve gotten into the Disk Utility you have to select your hard drive and click on the partition tab and under the Volume Scheme choose 1 Partition and click “Options” and choose GPT. From this tab choose “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” and name it Macintosh HD and click apply.

Step 6: Close Disk Utility and go through the Installer. After it is done restart and again press “F12″ and boot from the Boot-132 disk, this time select the Macintosh HD partition and again boot with the “-v -x” boot flags.

Step 7: Now that you’ve booted into your partition open your disk and open the “Post-Install” folder and install “Chameleon 2 RC3″ After this go back to the Post-Install folder and open the Extra folder now highlight and copy everything in the Extra folder. After you have copied all the files open up your “Macintosh HD” and go to the “Extra” folder and paste everything you copied.

Step 8: Now Open up the Applications folder from the Post-Install folder and open “Kext Helper” now go to “Local Extensions” and Kext Helper all the files in there.

Step 9: Go to the PrefPanes Folder and look below for the Terminal Commands that you need to run to install the trackpad preference pane. After that just double click the VoodooHDA prefpane. (Terminal is located inside the Utilities folder that is in the Applications folder.)

Step 10: Open up the Sleep folder and double click the SleepWatcher.dmg and install both packages. After this open the “Install rc.wakeup” and run the commands in terminal. Now quit terminal and open it again and run

“sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0

“sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage”

Step 11: Restart and you will have everything running. You should go to the VoodooHDA prefpane in system preferences and adjust the “Speaker” volume and the #5 Microphone for the mic. After this you can go to the sound prefpane and select the speaker as your output.

Step 12: Go to Software update and update to 10.6.1 and you’re good to go all updated. Please post a comment if this guide worked for you.

Step 13: If this guide helped feel free to return the favor and donate anything you can.

Common Problems on Dell Inspiron 1525 Hackintosh

Posted in Dell Inspiron 1525 on May 30th, 2009 by Genaro Bonilla – 222 Comments

**THIS POST IS OUTDATED PLEASE REFER TO THE SNOW LEOPARD GUIDE**

I’ve created this page to solve a lot of the common problems that people have had throughout the duration of this site.

To start, I’m going to write this using osx86tools created by pcwiz, you can download it here

http://pcwizcomputer.com/osx86tools/

It’s important to remember to check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks” in OSX86tools on a lot of these steps.

You Have No Wi-Fi: To get your wifi going run this patch broadcom patch and if that doesn’t work download this broadcom-script and open up terminal and type “sudo -s” without the quotes and drop the broadcom script into the terminal and press enter and go through the prompt. After this open up osx86tools and check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks”

You Have No Sound: To get sound download sound_fix and then open “osx86tools” and install both AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext and then check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks”

If this doesn’t work you can download this dailyblogged_fix which was posted over at http://www.dailyblogged.com/275/near-perfect-audio-with-latest-applehda/ To run it you have to open the AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 and drag the 1525_codec onto it. After this open osx86tools and check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks”

My Sleep Doesn’t Work: To get your sleep working download this sleep_fix (Made by Slice and the Voodoo team) and then open osx86tools and install both kexts and then check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks” and shutdown and boot with “-f” without the quotation marks.

My Shutdown Doesn’t Work: This is a problem when booting on battery power that I have yet to figure out. Two possible solutions that might work are as follow

You can open osx86tools and install OpenhaltRestart.kext made by Psystar.

Or you can try and follow the You Have No Sound part of this post and try both of them see if those fix it.

My Card Reader Doesn’t Work: To get your card reader working download IOPCIFamily.kext made by Slice and then open osx86tools and install the kext and then check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks” and shutdown and boot with “-f” without the quotation marks.

My Bluetooth Isn’t Recognized/Won’t turn off and on: To Get your bluetooth recognized and with the ability to turn it off and on. Download bluetooth_fix the IOBluetoothFamily.kext was modified by Zoharxero to get turn on/off capability and the applesmbios is by anV. To install open osx86tools and install the kexts and then check “Repair Permissions” “Set Extension Permissions” and “Clear Extensions Cache” and press “Run Selected Tasks” and shutdown and boot with “-f” without the quotation marks.

Please Post other Common Problems that should be addressed and I will do my best to get around to them.

Side Scrolling on your Hackintosh

Posted in Dell Inspiron 1525 on May 20th, 2009 by Genaro Bonilla – 92 Comments

Thanks to Slashack over at forum.voodooprojects.org we finally have side scrolling!

(Thank you zoharxero for emailing me letting me know how well it works)

I’ve been following this for a while and waiting for something a bit more stable and I think it’s pretty good right now. It will only get better from here when we get a prefpane for it.

This uses VoodooPS2controller.kext to get sidescrolling working thanks to a lot of people especially the Voodoo team!

A bonus to this is the the media keys work natively in itunes and quicktime without having to use Butler!

1) Download this sidescroll_voodoops2controller

2) Open terminal and run the following:

(Remember to replace YOUR-HDD with the name of your HDD, If you followed my guide it would be “/Macintosh\ HD/” Some of these files wont exist on your install, I’ve tried to make it as broad as possible, you should run all of the commands just in case.)

sudo -s

cd /Volumes/YOUR-HDD/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/

rm -Rf AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext

rm -Rf ACPIPS2Nub.kext

cd /Volumes/YOUR-HDD/System/Library/Extensions

rm -Rf ApplePS2Controller.kext

rm -Rf ApplePS2Controller.kext.orig

rm -Rf AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext

rm -Rf ACPIPS2Nub.kext

3) open OSX86Tools

4) Select Repair Permissions / Set Extensions permissions / Clear Extensions Cache and click “Run Selected Tasks”

5) Click “Install Kexts” install “VoodooPS2Controller.kext” to your HDD

6) Reboot with “-f” (without the quotes)

7) Open “System Preferences” and go to “Trackpad” and select “Clicking”

**As a side note Smart Scroll also makes side scrolling a lot smoother and really improves it in my opinion although alone it still works quite well.**

Dell Inspiron 1525 Hackintosh Screen Color

Posted in Dell Inspiron 1525 on May 1st, 2009 by Genaro Bonilla – 27 Comments

color-wheelWithout actually changing your settings it probably looks like your screen color looks just fine, right? That’s what I thought too!

Thankfully I ran into a comment over at Dailyblogged posted by zoharxero, which let me know what I was missing.

Zoharxero was kind enough to upload his screen calibration which he made using shareware and it looks fantastic.

Although the comment went quite unnoticed I feel that with this brought to light it will make your hackintoshes a tad bit better

1) Download the calibration file. color-calibrations (Now updated with zoharxero post)

2) Navigate to “Macintosh HD/Library/Colorsync/Profiles” and drop the file in there.

3) Now open up “System Preferences” and go to “Displays” and hit the “Color” tab and Select “30 arb nat”

4) Enjoy the amazing color.

Easy and safe Dual boot Vista and OSX

I have found a great and easy way to accomplish dual boot with Vista on the Dell Inspiron 1525 without using the Vista DVD, and thus never destroying the original Vista bootloader, nor the recovery or media direct functionality. Here is what I did (taking bits and pieces from others and add a little of myself): read more »

dell-inspiron-1525I figured that the people over at Espresso Report would benefit from having a place to come together and update their findings for their Inspiron 1525.

There have recently been some really big developments for the 1525 which include the ethernet port and the card reader, as well as the AppleHDA.kext so with that being said I’ve made the site so that if you sign up for it you can write your own posts and I’ll approve them as I see their importance. I’ve contemplated opening up a forum but I figure that the laptop is so close to perfect that it isn’t needed.

So lets get that Dell Inspiron 1525 running Mac OS X!
