Hey Genaro,
two quick questions.
1. Apple release the AirPort Utility 5.4.2 yesterday. Do you foresee any issues with installing this on the 1525 hackintosh?
2. In case one does update, then whats the best way to rollback to a previous version?
Thanks!!
Ramesh
i haved install IOPCIFamily.kext but the problem is the same , from what i haved seen from my last crached is that the cooler is the first thing that is stops and after that the display is getting black slower, is not like an ordinary shutdown, or force shutdown from the button.
Hello, after updating my computer to 10.5.7 it shows me this error: You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or Press the Restart button.
I did what it says and after two times of restarting, the os x opened succesfully. So in order for the os x to open i have to restart twice my computer. Please help me fix this error!!!
Please boot with “-v -f” at the beginning without the quotes and tell me what the error is.
Thanks for replying, I fixed the error by reinstalling the hacintosh drivers and everything is fine now
Again thank you for the amazing tutorials, you are the best!
Hi,I have an Inspiron 1525 that was running iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) perfectly fine. Now after trying the steps here for the 10.5.7 update, my wifi has stopped working (says no airport card installed and the broadcom package says it can’t install because a newer one is already installed). Also I have no functionality from my keyboard and trackpad, I have to use a usb keyboard and mouse right now. Any ideas?
hi this is the crash report that was generated, i haved use the Console to get this, is good, or do you need something else, another thing right now my notebook already has crashed 3 times today.

For your wifi please refer to this post http://macyourpc.com/2009/05/30/common-problems-on-dell-inspiron-1525-hackintosh/
For your Keyboard try to run this http://macyourpc.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/ps2fixkeyboard.zip
To be honest I don’t know what to make of that crash report, does it crash while you do anything specific? Is it a Kernel Panic or does it just shutdown? Did you use my tutorial and are running iPC?
@firstbyte – the blued crash shouldn’t cause you system to panic. Have you by chance turned off the bluetooth radio using the hardware switch (right side, at the front)? I would disable that switch in you system bios settings. (Press F12 at the Dell logo when booting and select BIOS setup).
Lets try a few things just to get us on the same page, 1) delete your kernel extensions cache using OSX86Tools, its the tick box marked clear extensions cache. 2) reboot with the ‘-v -f’ switches. 3) reboot again normally. 4) in the system profiler go to extensions and cut and paste what you see and post it here as a comment.
For those that might want the functionality back, there is a PowerManagement.bundle that will work with VoodooBattery.kext, etc. that will provide the old 10.5.5 Battery functions. Tested and it works and plays fine with both Apple’s and Superhai’s components.
I’ll gladly provide it to Genaro to post to the site and provide whatever directions are necessary for install.
Here’s a look at what I’m referring to (I don’t know why Apple ever removed it in the first place!):

So, yeah, a redundant follow-up here, but I can’t find ANYTHING regarding getting the modem in the 1525 to be recognized by the OS, much less making it usable.
I know you are presently asking yourself why would I even want the modem to function; I do have a plan though. I often have to fax a lot of documents — most of which come from my laptop. So, instead of printing them, dumping them into an old fax machine, etc., it would be MUCH NICER if I could just send them to some type of fax printer, using the modem.
So, if a solution exists, anyone knows anything about even getting the OS to recognize it, etc., I appreciate it. It’s one of the last two non-operating things on the 1525 — HDMI and the modem. So, getting it working would be one last step towards perfection!
– Wolfer
I went on a hunt for this mystery modem kext and I have yet been able to stumble upon it, I’m sorry to say
Genaro,
Thanks for referring the wifi fix, that got my wifi working and I got the wifi updating after running the ideneb combo updater.
how can i install 10.5.7 Combo Update in my Dell Inspiron 1525? its a dmg. file not exe or how can i boot this combo update? plz. someone give me some info. Thx
marvellmv: double click the dmg to open it. It will take a moment to open and mount. In the window that appears you will see the update package, double click that to perform the update. It’s a little different than the windows world, but stick with it, you’ll adjust soon…
Thx. Freeburma 4 answer me! i dont now wichi program can bee used to open .dmg files because in my case windows askme 4 aprogram. It says theres no program asociated whit .dmg files. Can u recomand me 1? Thx. a million
It is a MAC OS X update. It’s NOT for windows. If your running MAC OS X you just double click to open the disk image (.dmg). If you want to run MAC OS X instead of Windows start with this entry:
http://macyourpc.com/2009/03/10/dell-inspiron-1525-hackintosh-ipc-guide/
Good luck!
marvellmv: If you do NOT want to run MAC OS X on your Inspiron 1525, PLEASE do nothing. This web site is not for Windows and you have wandered into the wrong place.
I’m having an isssue with sleep mode on my dell 1525. I can put it into sleep mode once and wake it up fine, but the second time I try to enable sleep the computer completely freezes.
I have looked into many different things and still haven’t been able to figure out what is wrong with my sleep mode.
Other than that my system is running fine. The wifi signal strength seems a bit weaker than in Windows though. My SD card reader works fine, audio is fine. If I could get the sleep mode to work when on battery it would be absolutely perfect.
Please help my CPU heats up to 75 degrees by celsius on without any task, when it works it grows up to 95 I have installed the VodooPowerManagement kext and remooved the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext but no change.
If you will can you go over to my common problems page and try the sleep fix I’ve posted and tell me how that goes?
Do you have any other powermanagement kexts installed such as IntelEnhancedSpeedstep.kext? If so you have to remove it, in addition to this you have to clear your boot caches just incase anything is still loading. Try to download the GenericCPUMControl from http://www.superhai.com and check out if voodoopower.kext 1.2.3 is loaded.
I have tried the sleep fix you have described on that page.
Let me try to explain myself further. Sleep will work when plugged in AC power. However when I close the lid on battery power the laptop will go to sleep even after installing those kexts and repairing permissions etc.
I was just wondering if there was anything else I should look into to try and stop my laptop from sleeping when the lid is closed on battery power.
I have installed the dsdt.aml file and no longer have to do the sleep trick. Everything else seems to be ok.
The temp of my pc is typically between 40 to 70 celcius. It does seem cooler to the touch than vista.
My primary interest is fixing the sleep issue. Thanks, and your other information has been invaluable.
I have deleted the
I did removed the Intel EnhancedSpeedStep and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement and installed the voodoopower.kext and the GenericCPUMControl (which actually indicated the CPU temperature), but no change, maybe it is because my processor is older version ? Mine is Intel Code2Duo T5750?
I have that same processor, the t5750 2.0 ghz 3gb ram 250gb hd x3100 graphics, no bluetooth.
Yeah that shouldnt be much of a factor, Gregs you are running at the right temperature
Gregs from my understanding you don’t want it to sleep when you close the lid?
If that is the case then you should use http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22211 But I warn that if you leave it closed for too long your computer could overheat.
Thank you very much for your help. InsomniaX is the solution that I was looking for.
I am assuming that when running OSX my dell will not auto shutdown when it hits a certain temperature like it does in Vista? Previously, my laptop would just shutdown out of the blue until I realized that there was a significant amount of dust buildup that needed to be cleared.
Um… yeah… I’ve tried pretty much everything imaginable with these files, and my hard ethernet port is still not accessable via wither ‘Network’, or the ‘System Profiler’. I’m using a Marvell Yukon 88E8049 (I think), and the included kext (appleyukon2 or whatever) dosn’t do a damn thing.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Just got my trackpad to work… it responds beautifully, including right and left clicking… but the tracking speed is stupid fast! Is there any way I can get a trackpad menu in the system settings? And how can I get the keyboard to work? That’s still completely inoperable.
I tried to upgrade to 10.5.6 bia Software Updates and didn’ realize there was all this necessary workaround.
Is there ANY way to rever to 10.5.3? I can start in safe mode and REALLY don’t want to reformat and start over.
Thanks!
HELP! How do I rever back to Linux – I need to reinstall 10.5 since I screwed up upgrading (via Software Update) to 10.5.7
I’ll start reinstalling MacOSX from scratch and then do the proper upgrade, but I can’t undo the mess that the auto-upgrade made (scratches on the screen)
I can still however boot into Safe Mode — does that mean Boot Installer is still there? I created a boot disk, but now can ‘t get OS X disk to boot from the external DVD drive
I can tell you … put your 10.5.3 disk installation, and go into Utilities, Terminal and delete everything except Applications and Users folder… Then install the system, and after rebooting use the same short name that you have already used. After that, you can install your drivers, and got everything right!
Sorry about late answer (30 may, till now).
I had done somethings without reformatting. No backup taken. I cant backup because I dont have 2 partitions, and whatever I try, it says “source is busy”… Tried to DVD, flash usb pendrive… I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 so I dont want to take off the disc to make a backup.
Anyway, the thing is, I tried to install 10.5.7 but same problem than 10.5.4, or whatever version of ComboUpdate. It dies in a specific part (may be randomly), 12% or 22% of installation.
So you say, there is a version 10.5.6 freshy install ? I read something about iPC ? do you recommend that? is it possible to go from Kalyway 10.5.3 to iPC 10.5.6 without format ?
And… do you recommend to backup everything and install iPC 10.5.6 and then 10.5.7 or try going to 10.5.7 through Kalyway 10.5.3 and taking care of everything blah blah …??
To go from Kalyway to iPC is impossible and will kill your install. To be honest I would suggest backing up everything important to an external HDD or USB drive and go install iPC using my guide. The problem with updating all the way to 10.5.7 is that a lot of problems come with it. You can also wait till I get my retail install guide up.
I am running 10.5.7 xxx distro. Recently I have been experiencing some unusual behaviour from osx. I find that every so often something will happen and the CPU activity goes to 100% and crashes my system. I can’t get force quit to come up, essentially everything locks up and I have to turn off the machine.
Does anyone have any clue what could possibly be causing this?
Would installing a retail version be more compatible and have less issues?
That’s very strange… and it just started happening recently? Are there any changes you made to it? such as installing any new kexts?
Retail has less issues because you know exactly what it is that you are doing when you install it and you know what kexts are going in as opposed to xxx and ipc where they have a lot of mods that you are unaware of.
I will try to get my retail guide up as soon as possible. The poor economy and the current state of my family has kept me from doing so but I will try my best to get the guide out.
Well, in the process of trying different kexts to solve my sleep issue, and then finding out that dsdt.aml was the solution certain kexts were changed. At this point it would be kind of difficult to determine which one exactly is the culprit. I haven’t pinpointed this occurence to whether it occurs after returning from sleep or something else. I am trying to watch it but as of yet haven’t seen the pattern.
If you do post the retail guide for installation I would probably end up buying the DL DVD and doing it the “proper” way. Hopefully the retail install will make 10.6 install go smooth also.
One other question, is it a possible or even a good idea to dual boot win 7 and osx86 on the same hard drive?
It’s possible but the problem with it is that a lot of times when you install windows 7 it will kill your ability to use chameleon and leaves you with having to use the Windows 7 bootloader to load osx. I believe there are a few ways around it…although I haven’t really read up on it too much. I used windows 7 and os x on my 1525 for a while but I reformatted recently to a retail install in hopes of getting the retail version up and running for everyone.
I really liked windows 7 though, it was quite nice.
Well, I’ve tried three times to reinstall to no avail. When I went to the Terminal all I saw was .forward and Library — no Users or Applications (I set this up for a friend and killed it w/ System Upgrade), I am STUCK!
I repaired the disk permissions and got 97% thru the install when I got
The Installer could not make teh computer start up from the volume Macpart. Also, when trying to start from the Dell I get boot0: GPT boot0: HFS+ boot0: error
What should I try next? Thanks in advance for all help! It is VERY much appreciated.
I can tell you:
TAKE CARE OF WHERE YOUR TERMINAL IN 10.5.3 DIRECTORY STARTS.
I mean, that .forward and Library are part of the disc, you should go to your Diskname. My case was MAC what I called it, so
or whatever your mac-installed disk name is. And there it is !
OK I got to where the Directory starts (../../) and saw Applications etc. but NO Users folder!
I think at this poiint i should install Ubuntu NetBook remix, and start the OS X install from scratch?? Do you know how to get it back to Linux?
Disk Utilities would not even let me Erase the Macpart (mac partition) — Thanks so much!
You didnt read me well. I said cd /Volumes/yourmacdiskname/
Because of ../…/ is the root of Installation Disk and not your computer.
I know it is a bit strange, but is how it works. Logicly, it is like there is a folder called Volumes inside the DVD, which contains our entire hard disk.
So, you are current running the retail osx on dell 1525? I assume you are also using the dsdt.aml?
My question to you was: Have you noticed any unusual behaviour or other issues when running this version of OSX? I intend on installing the retail once 10.6 is released.
Ugh. No luck.
ok, I removed (rm -r) the files like you said except users and Applications. (twice)
(etc, mach_kernal private, sbin .Trashes, tmp, var, usrSystem, Library, Volumes, BaseSystem.pkg. etc. until the only thing left was Users and Applications)
Both times Install Failed with only one second to go. Installer could not make the computer start up from the Volume “Macpart”. Using the Startup Utility didn’t work either.
I would very much appreciate your next step advice?
I could think 2 things, but anyway I want to know Genaro thoughts.
First, it is a bit strange to have same error there, I am thinking about you are skipping disk verification and the disk is damaged.
Second, it wouldnt happen if the disk is not damage. But anyway, you could try backing up those folders (users and applications) to a dvd, pen drive or portable HD. And then format the entire disk and install it from 0. (then you can use 10.5.6 iPC), and restore your backup once finished making things work properly
I did mostly skip validation, but did let it run one of the five times I tried reinstalling.
Can you please tell me how to reformat (I’m sorry I know this is basic, but I can’t get the Dell to boot anyway except with the bootloader and the Retail OS disc I don’t need to backup anything that I needed I have.
¡Muchas gracias por su amable ayuda — soy medio cubano y visito a argentina el año que viene!
All you have to do is open up disk utility from the retail disk and reformat it and then you’re good to go, you can just install over it.
OK I reformatted Mac OS (journaled) and same thing install failed with one minute remaining – http://bit.ly/UvYwJ (like that)
So discouraging since I installed it easily the first time and now, nothing seems to work. I do notice that right before it loads Darwin/x86 it flashes what looks like an error code that says
.com.apple…??? something missing
Then I can get it to load the OS X disk after using the Boot Loader disk
Should I try to restore to factory settings? Am I screwed with Dell re: warranty?
Thanks again.
I’m sort of unsure what is really going on? Are you using 10.5.6 iPC or retail disk?
Retail 10.5.3 disk — thanks for sticking with me on this, I REALLY need to figure it out.
Gracias!
If you are installing retail then it will fail in the last minute then you have to boot it up with the boot disc and then continue to put the necessary kexts in the /extra folder. I would suggest using the iPC disk till I put up a retail guide considering the retail approach is a bit more technical.
Hmm — I think I may have a clue! I rmatted’ (erase Mac OS Extended journaled) just the Mac partition instead of the whole drive! Could that be it? Now I formatted the ‘primary’ disk and will see if that works. (what is an iPC disk? intel?)
Grazi Genaro and Tom
Yikes! That didn’t seem to help at all (formatting the MAIN Dell disc instead of the Mac Partition) – It gave Error after going all the way to 1% on install.
Now when I try to boot I get:
Intel UNDI, PXW-2.1 (build 082)
Copyright Intel Corp
For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet controller v1.09 (080408)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE Rom.
Operating System not found
Now what?
I would suggest either getting a 10.5.6 retail disc or you can go with an iPC install, feel free to email me so I can point you in the right direction. gbonilla@mandomhood.com
If you would simply like to get back to something like ubuntu or windows you should get the gparted live cd and delete all partitions off of your hdd and start a fresh install of your preferred os.
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
hello i get this message when i try to do the prefpane trackpad
cp: /var/root/Desktop/Trackpad.prefPane: No such file or directory
sh-3.2#
This is really incredible. I am now on 10.5.7 !!!!! I was on Kalyway, but decided to trust you and your site macyourpc. I dont regret my donation for you. You are much more worthy.
You know, everything works perfectly on Dell Inspiron 1525, hd 110gb, 3gb ram, without bluetooth, and Pentium Dual-Core T23xx
If you followed my guide then you already have it installed and you are ready to go!
Hi, i’m having the same problem, i install the power and battery fix and the kwyboard doesnt work anymore and the “you need to restart…” screen remains everytime i want to restart.
Here my specs:
Dell Inspiron 1525 Intel Celeron at 2gb…
how did you re-install the drivers? my iDeneb is: 10.5.7
Thank you.
10.5.8 anyone tried this yet?
Yup, gave it a try with the delta update. Broke sleep, bad. Also had to replace the normal stuff like AppleHDA, etc. I’d wait if you need your hackbook.
Interesting.. & thanks for the up.
A followup. Reports starting to come in over on Insanely Mac, the sleep problem appears to be wide spread, not just 1525 and not just me
Word to the wise: FULL SYSTEM BACKUP if you intend to give it a go…
To be honest with you I’m thinking on maybe skipping this update as I read on the Apple site that this will be the last update before ’snow leopard’ is released. My Dell’s working a treat & even though I have a full back up I don’t feel like messing around to much – well that’s how I fell at the mo though lets see what tomorrow has in store!
Actually it wasn’t on the Apple website that I read that, it was on the ‘appleinsider’ site & it stated it may be the last. Though reading elsewhere it seems the money is on one more update (10.5.9) before ’snow leopard’ -
10.5.8 after one day. As of now this is a good news and bad news story. The bad news, sleep/hibernate is not working. Using the 10.5.7 kernel and system.kext gives working sleep but that’s not a solution, that’s ugly.
The good news is that every thing else works more or less as before. USB appears to work at USB 2 speeds with the stock extensions. WiFi works with stock extensions although the led doesn’t turn on or off. Bluetooth on-off works with a quick plist edit (google for that). Ethernet requires a hex edit to give correct Mac address (google for that). Voodoo power and battery are as before and the latest VoodooPS2 keyboard and trackpad all work the same. AppleHDA has to be replaced with the edited one and HDAEnabler is of course required.
This leaves a stock /S/L/E other than HDA + the Voodoo stuff. I placed my edited 10.5.8 versions of the bluetooth and networking family extensions in /Extra and they ‘override’ the untouched versions in /S/L/E. The trackpad preference pane edit is the same as before (see the post on the voodoo forums). I think that covers it as of this moment, and my take on this is to recommend passing on this update for now. If you do decide to give a try please do a complete backup.
Concerning the 10.5.8 update. I have been able to get everything including sleep to work. Sleep required a patch to dsdt.aml to allow the use of AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext without a KP. Of course there is no speed stepping out of the box with this. More on that later.
For those who have already made the plunge, go over to extremely mac, search out the dsdt patcher (1.0.1e) and run it with the -newHPET flag. Install the resultant dsdt.aml, remove voodoopower extension, and install the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement extension. I also needed to install the OpenHaltRestart extension. That should get you on your way… Of course, you may also brick your system… You’ve been warned!
For the moment I’m standing by my statement that this update is not worth the trouble.
Sorry, forgot to say that you need to remove the Disabler extension to allow AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement to load. If this makes you uncomfortable, it should. Be careful!
Hi,
After updating to 10.5.8 my 1525 will only boot with -s to the command prompt..
help!!!!
Eitan: Boot with the -f -v flags and tell me what it says just before it stops.
Booting with the -x flag will allow him to get in also. Safe Mode almost always works for me and really helped me with my 10.5.8 woes (Before I switched back to 10.5.7). Just remember that with safe mode, it can take you up to 3 minutes to boot.
Thanks for that Thomas.
I’m going to say this one more time. Thinking of updating to 10.5.8? Don’t. It would take a lot of time to support all the issues that go along with this update on this hardware. If you go ahead with this your asking for a world of hurt…
hey guys , i didn’t upgrade to 10.5.8 yet
i just downloaded the update and ideneb tool 10.5.8 .. is there any thing to do before upgrading ?
when i upgraded to 10.5.7 …. it went very well with me ( through apple combo update 10.5.7 )
i didn’t face any kernel panic or anything else .. just i had to reinstall couples of kexts again
also what is disabler.kext ???
this is a quote from i deneb site
“The updates allow you to keep all main patch installed with the distro ( es. AppleHDA.kext, AppleSMBIOS.kext, AppleACPIPlatform.kext, IONetWorkingFamily.kext etc.. ) and you can find the original files instead in Kext Disabled.”
Hi,
My system is up and running once again, with 10.5.8. (-x after setup and restoring the kext files from the 10.5.7 package did the trick).
However, sleep\ hibernate are not working.
Any idea?
Did everything you mentioned, I have a peached dsdt.aml & no Disabler.kext act’..
sleep / hibernation are not working
I have the other 2 Voodoo extensions – the battery and and the ps2 could this be the problem?
10x
Eitan/
Oops forgot to remove the Disabler form the Extra directory..
sleep \ hibernate are working though I think the voodoo power gave a better battery duration time.
Eitan.
You can put the voodoopower extension back. It will help some. They do coexist fine.
Eitan, you got lucky with this one (and you have skills and patience!). You must have had a relatively clean installation to start with. Many do not. There are wide spread reports of 1525’s and similar systems that end up requiring a reinstall from scratch. SO, everyone else, DO NOT take this one example as an indication to update. I have not experienced one thing with 10.5.8 that is better or fixed over 10.5.7. On the contrary, it introduces additional problems that have to be dealt with AND your system will run hotter, the fan will be louder, your battery life will be shorter, it will boot slower, and a whole host of other more subtle issues.
I made the upgrade to 10.5.8 but hibernate is not working and also time fix on dual boot Vista is not working. Its runnig hot also. There is a way to return to 10.5.7 without risk?
Jesús from Mex.
Short answer:
No. Reinstall.
Longer answer:
You can see my previous comments concerning the sleep issue. I will not provide support for that beyond what I have already indicated. I’ll assume you went ahead with this update BEFORE you came here and read the comments, in which case I wish you the best.
If you updated AFTER reading my warnings and recommendations, well then, now you see why.
Look people, I didn’t spend the time to go through this and then report on the findings for my own satisfaction or to stroke my ego. I’m trying to help you and save you from a potentially difficult situation. `nuff said.
Thanks
Adding the VoodooPower back made it somewhat better.
You are absolutely right, this update doesn’t worth the risk and the time needed to restore the system to a working condition.
Thanks for the tips & the help!!
Eitan.
can any one answer me plz??
still didn’t upgrade to10.5.8 and i read all the comments about the upgrade & i am still confused.
Don’t !
After playing for 2 days with this update I ended up with a system that can’t shutdown (OpenHaltRestart will not help)
If I could I would have restored 10.5.7 without any hesitation
Eitan.
Hi, what I would recommend to those who have updated to 10.5.8 and want to go back is a reinstall of RETAIL 10.5.6 -> 10.5.7.
Eitan, do you want to give this a go? If so, leave a comment with a throw away email address and your hardware configuration, I’ll contact you and we’ll work through it. You’ll need to backup everything first (music, documents, all your stuff), get a retail dvd, and some re-writable CD’s or DVD’s.
After, maybe you could leave an accounting of how it went, help someone else and well, you get the idea. We all learn something and the community becomes stronger.
I don’t have a ton of time, but if we could find a couple/three hours (and deal with time zone diffs) uninterrupted I think we can get this done.
Hi,
Here is my address : Noyasoft@gmail.com
Hw is outsource 1525 along with BT and no built in camera.
Is it possible to install directly from the retail CD?
I’ve long though of buying this OS as I truly think it’s worth the price, though as far as I know Apple binded the OS license to their Hardware so I’m not sure if I’ll be a legitimate customer after having purchased the retail CD.
Let’s continue this over the e-mail
Eitan.
Hi, i just upgraded to 10.5.7… The sound wasn’t working but i got it working, now my USB mouse won’t work… Any ideas? Everything seems fine right now except for the mouse.
Nevermind that, i got it working again… But now it feels really sluggy to move, if you know what i mean :S
I got it installed, but for some reason i don’t got any sound? How can i fix my sound? thanks.
FreeBurma,
Nice work on creating a new DSDT.aml to work along with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. But, have to agree, 10.5.8 is not worth the effort considering the effort is best put into 10.6 right now — as I have about a little time as you do.
I did want to ask you a question though since you went there — to 10.5.8, that is. When you did, did you find ANYWAY to have the Energy Saver prefPane retain and ‘Battery’ related settings? I was only able to get the 1525 to see that it was on the Power Adapter regardless of it actually being on AC and/or Battery. There was no method of replacing prefPanes, PM bundles, patched AppleSMBIOS.kext’s, etc. that I could find to fix this. I got my sleep to work perfect by just installing the 9.7 kernel on 10.5.8, and thought that might bring my Energy Saver settings back, but alas they were still gone.
I have since dropped back to a 10.5.7 backup. And again, I’ll stay there until I have time to put into installing 10.6 — if and when I ever get the time.
Thanks for any feedback on your experiences regarding the above though. I see that a lot of people had the exact same issues, but VERY FEW that actually every got a solid solution to work for them. Again, I just want to confirm *someone* else saw what I did and if it was correctable, how.
‘Presh.

You can try this http://www.osx86.es/?p=563 (site is in spanish only) this fix allows native stepping on intel laptops, it neeeds patched dsdt with -newHPET flag and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext.
I tested it in 10.5.7 retail, and worked pretty well.
For install just download the leopard version, copy smbios.plist to /Extra and Legacy ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext to /Extra/Extensions folder. Both have values of a MacbookAir1,1, is recommended to edit them to a closer profile to your hardware, i think for dell 1525 will be macbookpro3,1.
To make sure is working open ioregistry explorer inlcuded on the zip and search for entry
ACPI_SMC_Platformplugin, if shows 0×0 value means is working, CoolBook and Hardware Monitor also show stepping.
All the credits is for Evosx86team.
Wolfer/Dave: I have been using the Voodoobattery extension and that works as well as any solution I am aware of. My energy saver preference panel has both A/C and battery settings and works as I would expect. The one issue is that when returning to A/C from battery the time remaining to fully charged sticks at 10 hours and does not update until the battery is fully charged.
DSDT patching/modifications remain a great mystery to me. I can run the “automated” patchers and get something useful but that’s the extent of my expertise. I’ve been messing around with editing mine to enable “clamshell” sleep with no positive results. I’d also like to do the “patch” that I have heard about to enable our sound device, but I have failed! If anyone has had any luck with these please clue us in on the secret (post the code and some words on how you got it to work).
ZoharXero: Thanks for that. It’s very interesting. I was able to get P-State switching to work loading this plist only extension from /Extra. However, when this is loaded from the /Extra folder it does fail because of a dependency (but apparently not completely). This is VERY specific to your CPU model. The 1525 has shipped with many different CPU types spanning three or four major CPU families. Mine is a Core 2 duo T5450 (yea, low end!). When I loaded this from /S/L/E so as to get it to load completely it caused a UI server crash on boot. This is because it tried to set the C-State of the X3100 video controller. That works nicely on a real MacBook3,1 or Macbook Air1,1 but not so well on our 1525’s.
I do understand the purpose for this patch (after comparing it to the “stock” plist the X.5.8 ACPI_SMC_Platformplugin.kext) and how it might save you from a DSDT.aml patch, but I don’t see the purpose of it to only do P-States control. Voodoopower does that perfectly and is rock solid. It also comes with a monitoring app if you use the full version not the mini version.
Power management is a big topic, a good place to start is here: ‘http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=420&pgno=0′. This is a VERY simple overview but interesting nonetheless.
Will this work for 10.5.2 Kalyway?
Im worried about updating to 10.5.7 i have an external HD around 160Gb but i have a ton of info on it. I wanna back up using Time Machine but it asks to reformat the HD. I cant do that. And I dont wanna take the risk of updating and something going wrong. Can anyone be of any help reassuring me?
Great guide, by the way. I am happy to donate and will do so later today.
I installed using iPC and have been up and running for several weeks.
When I power up my 1525 now, it gets to the Chameleon screen and then I get the following error:
EBIOS read error: Device Timeout
Block xxxxxxxxx Sectors 64
I booted using the iPC disk and ran the disk utility and used the repair disk option which said that it did not find any issues. I also ran repair permissions.
When I rebooted after that, I get the same error.
@Rod: try booting with the flag -x
